All aboard this Sunday, as our Southern Encounter service steams out of Mount Barker for Victor Harbor!
Our 1936-built steam locomotive 621 will head our train of art-deco area steel bodied passenger carriages on a day trip like no-other.
Enjoy the ever-changing views from your carriage window, as our train steams up and over the crest of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges at Philcox Hill, and meanders downgrade, past old sidings, towering gum trees and the occasional Kangaroo to Strathalbyn.
From Strathalbyn, the train races across the plains, through grain and grazing country, mallee scrub and across towering bridges crossing the Finniss River, Tookayerta Creek and Currency Creeks to the historic river port of Goolwa.
At Goolwa, we join trains with the Cockle Train for the run along coast to Victor Harbor, where there’s ample time for lunch and a stroll to Granite Island.
All too soon, we are back onboard, as we retrace our steps to Goolwa, and then onto Strathalbyn. From Strathalbyn, the challenge is on, as our steam engine digs deep to haul our train up through the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges back to Mt Barker, arriving back at around 6pm.
Departs Mt Barker Railway Station 10am, returns by 6pm.
