River to River
August 8 at 11:25 am - 2:20 pm
On Sunday August 8th SteamRanger gives Strathalbyn locals the opportunity to travel on a steam loco from Strathalbyn to Goolwa. Last year, SteamRanger took this journey to Goolwa and back with one of our smaller steam loco’s Rx 207. On Sunday, SteamRanger is doing it again but this time with SteamRanger’s largest running steam loco 621 taking control.
When SteamRanger’s Highlander train arrives at Strathalbyn Station, the passengers from Mount Barker will alight and enjoy their time in Strathalbyn. While they admire the town, SteamRanger are offering the local people of Strathalbyn and surrounds a return journey to Goolwa.
The River to River train is scheduled to leave Strathalbyn at 11.25am and arrive at Goolwa at 12.25pm where it will be filled up with water and the loco turned for the trip home, leaving Goolwa at 1.20pm and arriving at Strathalbyn at 2.20pm. The magic of this section of the Mount Barker to Victor Harbor track is the bridges. No fewer than three large bridges are traversed – Finniss Bridge, Black Swamp Bridge and the mighty Currency Creek Bridge, which is the tallest rail bridge in South Australia. Also traveling through scrub country with its native vegetation where kangaroos are often seen bounding alongside the track chasing the train.
Tickets for the River to River return journey are only $30 for Adults, $16 for Children and $27 for Seniors. Ticket can be purchased by booking online on www.steamranger.org.au, by phone on 1300 655 991 or on the day at Strathalbyn on the train. Online and phone bookings close at 5.00 pm Friday 9th July. There are no seat allocations for this journey. So its first in for the best seats and seats are limited. The train will then depart Strath at 2.30pm, arriving at Mt Barker at 3.20pm
A perfect trip for the locals!
