Explore the stunning Mt Lofty Ranges this Autumn by train.

SteamRanger Heritage Railway will operate ‘The Highlander’ using heritage 1950’s ‘Redhen’ Railcars or heritage diesel locomotives, hauling wooden passenger carriages, from Mt Barker to Strathalbyn and return, each Thursday during April and May 2018!

Travelling south from Mt Barker, your train climb to the highest point of the line between Mt Barker and Strathalbyn at Philcox Hill. Here you can enjoy spectacular views of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges, right down to the shores of Lake Alexandrina. From Philcox Hill, the train will meander down through the old stations of Bugle Ranges and Gemmells, and on to the Scottish hamlet of Strathalbyn. Watch for the native wildlife trying to outpace the train! Enjoy a few hours exploring the antique shops and eateries of Strathalbyn, before an early afternoon return to Mt Barker.
